Baila Wichita Code of Conduct for Classes & Social Dancing
Adapted from the code of conduct by: The Salsa Center
Social dancing is a shared experience that thrives on mutual respect, inclusivity, and joy. To maintain a safe and welcoming space for all dancers (whether beginner or advanced) we kindly encourage everyone to follow this code of conduct on the dance floor:
1. Ask for Consent
Always ask someone to dance, never assume or pull someone onto the dance floor.
A simple “Would you like to dance?” is perfect.
Accept “NO” gracefully. Everyone has the right to say no at any time, for any reason.
2. Be Mindful of Space & Safety
Control your movements to avoid collisions or injuries.
Be mindful of personal boundaries and limitations–always ask before initiating dips, lifts, or close embrace.
Protect your partner on the dance floor, especially during spins and dips.
3. Practice Good Hygiene
Fresh breath, clean clothes, and deodorant go a long way.
Bring an extra shirt or towel if you sweat a lot.
Respect personal space and avoid wearing heavy fragrances.
4. Dance Within Your Level
Don’t push advanced moves on newer dancers.
Leaders: Choose moves your partner can follow comfortably.
Followers: Stay grounded, and communicate if something feels unsafe.
5. Be Encouraging, Not Critical
Social dancing is not the place to “teach” unless asked.
Offer encouragement instead of correction.
Celebrate your partner’s efforts and make the experience enjoyable.
6. Rotate and Be Inclusive
Socials are for building community. Try dancing with different people, not just one partner.
Welcome newcomers with warmth and kindness.
7. Respect Boundaries
Be aware of how close or sensual your dance is, and check your partner’s comfort.
Avoid inappropriate touching or overly suggestive movements.
Respect boundaries, spoken or unspoken.
8. Speak Up, Respectfully
If someone crosses a boundary, you have the right to speak up or step away.
If you witness harassment or inappropriate behavior, notify a staff member or event organizer.
If you feel more comfortable, you can report misconduct anonymously at bailawichita.com/report
9. Be Open to Feedback
If someone expresses discomfort, listen without defensiveness.
Growth as a dancer and community member includes learning how to navigate feedback with grace.
10. Have Fun and Be Kind
Smile, connect, and enjoy the moment.
Support the music, the DJs, the bands, and each other!
💬 Note: By attending classes and socials at Baila Wichita Latin Dance Studio, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a positive dance environment for all.
Let’s keep the joy of dancing alive, one respectful connection at a time!
